Each person should do as he has decided in his heart — not reluctantly or out of compulsion, since God loves a cheerful giver. (2 Corinthians 9:7)
It is free to attend the Christiania Church, and there is no collection at our services, as we do not want to pressure people to support the church. We respect your free will, but we want to make you aware that there will be other costs if you want to proceed with the Christian faith.
These costs are linked to the wonderful gift of free will that is given to all humans by God, which means we have the freedom to choose what we do. In other words, we can decide to do right or to do wrong, i.e. to follow God's will for us or not.
The Bible - which is the word of God - shows us the consequences of doing wrong, which ultimately harms ourselves and those we wrong. This wrong is called sin. The Bible also tells us that the wages of sin are death, i.e. eternal death. As we all do wrong at sometime or other, we are all deserving of eternal death. But God has made a way to save us from this, by providing Jesus to take the punishment we deserve, which he did when he died on the cross and descended to the realm of the dead (Hades). Jesus died for us, so that we can receive eternal life, if we accept him as our saviour. To do that, we need to recognise our need for a saviour, i.e. accept that we are unrighteous sinners.
As Jesus provides us with everlasting life, we thank him by choosing to follow him, which means following his example and obeying his commands. When we do this, we call ourselves Christians.
At some point in your journey towards God, we hope you will fully commit your life to Christ and follow him - out of your own free will.
The gift of salvation is free, but you must be prepared for it to cost you everything if you are to fully receive it. Jesus says: "He who loves father or mother more than Me is not worthy of Me. And he who loves son or daughter more than Me is not worthy of Me. And he who does not take his cross and follow after Me is not worthy of Me. He who finds his life will lose it, and he who loses his life for My sake will find it." (Matthew 10: 37-39)
